Swanage Haven
A glorious stone built multi-levelled Swanage haven for a very busy client.
Purbeck stone, oak setts, self binding gravel, Oak sleepers and limestone paving all combine harmoniously to blend seamlessly with the house situated in a sleepy village near Swanage in Dorset.
A sunbaked rear garden provides chilled areas for dining, lounging, or a coffee sitting on the steps. The levels intersected by big planting beds bring privacy and a sense of seclusion away from the world.
The harmonious planting is soft with a blue/green/white palette with plenty of movement and texture. Faily low maintenance the plants are happy to get on with it leaving my clients breathing space to enjoy this peaceful space.
The side garden (originally a garage forecourt) is now enclosed with tall beech hedging and a circular area held by a ring of Cornus that have blended together now. Interwoven planting between the trunks brings a serenity to this space which is used for mindful activities.
The garage has been roofed with sedum which provides and feast for insects and helps to blend this building into the countryside beyond.
